Back at School!!!

I started school on the 15 November l and it feels different.

When we went back to school we did art like mandalas and chalk art. Before we could draw it on the court we had to plan what design we were going to do for the mandalas. It also had to have something that represented us in the mandalas. I put kunais and the hidden leaf headband from the anime Naruto because I like anime and also some rugby balls on the around the out side.

Narrative

This week we have been doing work on narratives. We had a slide that told us on how to make our own narratives. We used morphed animals as our main characters. I had three main characters a griffin, Pegodog and a dragodile. Some of you will know the griffin from harry potter and I made the other 2 up.

School Holidays

Was your holiday fun because mine was. It was my dads and sisters birthday in the holidays. For my dads birth day he had a carrot cake and my sister had a creamy sponge cake with a tik tok logo on it because she loves tik tok. My brother had made both cakes from the help of my mum. All though we didn't do much together the holidays where still fun. We also went to a park with my mums friend and her baby and we went on a long walk, Me and my brother also played basketball with another kid. There was also a half pipe and I told my mum the next time we go there I would bring my skateboard because I have been wanting to go on a half pipe for a long time.

This week Te Waka Ako was introduced to code avengers. Code avengers is a very cool site. You get points for completing the lesson. I have 300 points from Computational Thinking 1. There are 10 lessons in the Computational Thinking 1 and I have done 6 lessons. On the side it show your learning hour on the site and how many lessons are completed.

Te Waka Akos Olympic

On Monday the 15th on August Te Waka ako had there own Olympics. It was so much fun. But we werent playing games that you normaly play. It was very diffrent for example one of the games was who could chuck the gumboot the furthest. At the end the 3 top teams who had got the best scores got given medals, like the Olympics. How you got scores was there was 1 adult on ech station and when you finish the game you hand them the clip board and they would fill in for example in one we got 2/3 for sportsminship. At the start we also got given a country. My teams was Cuba. Here is some pics of the day.

Olympic DLO

For my reading I have been doing work on the Olympics for the past 2 or 3 weeks. Before we got to start our DLO we had to gather some information and put it on a google doc and put it in our own words. We got the information from a google drawing with a lot of book on the Olympics. Did you know that In the ancient Olympics the people who had won the sport had got given crowns had of olive leafs. Mud run

On Wednesday the 4th of August, me and some of the other students went to the Tough Guy Challange to do the Mud Run. I was so pumped and ready for the Mud Run. We left to go to the Mud Run around 8:00. When we arrived we took a look around the place. When run had started me and my friends stayed in a group. There where a lot of obstacles like we had to climb a wall, go though the tunnel, go under stings and under real barbed wire. Before the race had started me and my friends did a Challenge on who could get the muddiest. Here is some pictures and and comment  who do you think was the muddiest.

Olympic

This week Te Waka Ako have been doing work on the Olympics. One of the tasks that was the Olympic Sports Logo. What we did was look at the logos that was on the slide and we had to match the logo with the sport that it was. I learnt that there was a Olympic sport called canoe slalom

Math's Activities

Hi bloggers. I have been doing work on times table in my math's class. There were some times table equations written in a book and we had to solve it in 3 different ways, one of them was, trebling and thirding and the other 2 was long multiplication and place value.

 Here is how to use trebling and thirding for eg   9 x 9    9 ➗ 3 = 3   9 x 3 = 3 x 27 = 81 

This how to do long multiplication eg   70 x 900          900   ....................................................................................X    70   ...................................................................................... 6300............................................................................ 900   0 x 0 = 0   0 x 7 = 0     9 x 7 = 63 altogether = 6300

And this is how to place value eg  10 x 18   10 x 20 = 200   10 x 2 = 20     20 - 200 = 180 so the answer is 180

Waikowhai's Toolkits

Hi bloggers on Friday the 11 of June  when it was STEM week our school had our own toolkits. If you don't know what STEM stands for it stands for science, technology, engineering and math. I  was one of the people who presented, I was presenting Webcam Toy with my friend Dusty. If you don't know what tookit is it is when there are when people present a site and show you how to use it and then they let you try out the site. To choose which toolkit you wanted to go to we filled in a google form.

In my first toolkit I went to Hauraki to learn how to do a slide animation. It was amazingly fun. If you don't know how to do a slide animation here is some instructions.

1. Make a google side
2. Find a image you want to animate 
3. Click on it
4. Find the word animate on the bar above the slide
5. Click on it and press make a animation
6. Press the word fade in and it should come up with with other words
7. Choose how you want you image it come on to the slide
   
8. Find a word that says click on and choose when you want your image come on to the slide
9. Press play if you want to see your animation
10. If you like it press the x and press present and watch you animation.

In the next toolkit I was presenting Webcam toy. I think this was the best part of the toolkit because all of my friends where there and we even took group pictures. If you don't know how to use webcam toy here is some instructions.

1. Type in webcam toy in your search bar
2. Use the arrow keys to get from the next and previous page
3. Press the space bar to take a picture

And in the last toolkit I presented Webcam toy again. It was not as fun because none of my friends were in this one.

I think that the second toolkit was the best out of all of the toolkit but did kind of like the google slide animation. I reckon we should do this every year.

Toolkits

I was one of the students in my school to go to the Toolkits on the 20th of May.

If you don't know what toolkits are, it is when some schools go to one school and a there are people that present from different schools. There where three people that presented from my school and the people who presented go to a class that they got told to go to so then people who picked that presentation goes to that class. But the day after the people that where going to the Tool-kits had to pick witch one they wanted to go to. For the first session I went to coding Minecraft and after each toolkit You get to have a 15 minutes break

Coding Minecraft was very fun for me. Coding Minecraft was when we went to a site called hour of code then searched for the coding Minecraft. If you don't know how to code there will be a video or and speech bubble the will help you in each level.

After the break I headed to a Toolkit that was how to remove you back ground.  So it was simpler that I thought. So first We went to a site called Remove.bg then you insert the picture that you want to remove the background of. Then you download it on your chrome book and that was that Tool-kits.

In the last session I did Book Creator it was basically just making a book on a google slide but it was still fun. My book that I made was about a samurai.

Spark Arena Trip

Today the 17 of May Waikowhai's Year 6 students went to Spark Arena. Brendon Hines was the one who had organised this trip for us and 2 other school, it was free!!!. There was 3 activities that we did there. There was Happy Place, Sounds Fun and Van Gogh exhibit. We went to happy place first.

The first activity we did was Happy place it was very very fun. First thing that we did in the Happy Place was the ball pit. 4 people jumped in together and then the teachers took some pictures of us jumping in to the ball pit. I was surprised how deep it was it was like the height of my friend Tayszar. The second thing that we did in the happy place was the slide. After that we took some pictures in rooms and then we got to my favorite part of the happy place. It was like a dome and there was something like a a lot of fans under the floor and then when we went in and there was confetti was flying every where. 

The next activity that we did was sounds fun. It was where we got to play with the launch pads. When we got to go to do the launch pad we had to look at the computer because there was a yellow line that would go past a block and when the yellow goes on the block you had to press that block. There was also trumpets that we got to play for fun. There even a electric drum that he got to have a turn on. 

The finally activity that we did before having and lunch and going back to school the Van Gogh exhibit it was a dark room were to shows his arts. It also had words on the walls about his life.

Swimming at Cameron Pools

In Te Waka Ako we have been going to Cameron pools for swimming lessons. We started going this term.  At Cameron pools we got split in to 3 groups. In my group I have Paige, Daniel, Marcus, Tainui, Hazel, Tehani and Amara. In my group we only use half a swimming Lane. It is very fun swimming there for me. My 2 favorite way of swimming for me is free style and back strock. The day that we go to Cameron pools are on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We take a bus to the pools. We normally use the board to help us do do the technique then we put the board up on the bench and try with out it. For the next few day we are looking at water safety

In School Wire Trenches

Yesterday the  14th of April Te Waka Ako had a different day at school. The teachers
put string on furniture and if we put our head over the string we lost a life. We had to crawl everywhere we go. We were not allowed out but you are only allowed out if you needed to go toilet or  a good reason. The only time were where allowed out was when it was lunchtime and morning tea but we had to eat in class under the wires/string it was very, very funny because the teachers got the nerf guns out and started to shoot us when we were eating. We also had a basic facts test under the string and the teachers were playing gun shots sounds on the speaker to see how well we did. One of the task that they gave us was pretending that we were at war and to send a letter home so we had to write the. Letter here is my letter that  I wrote

Dear mum it's not going well here bodies on the battlefield, gunshots coming from every angle.

I am still in war in Gallipoli. It's not fun here that's what I can tell you. Say hi to Amaya, Kobe and Dad for me.  Love you from Daiki

Another task that we did was a Picture dictation it was about what happened to the ANZAC at Gallipoli in World War 1 here is a picture of my Picture dictation

Lego Workshop

 Hi Bloggers i forgot to post this as last year

Hauraki did there lego workshop last week. I was so excited to go and do the lego workshop. Before we started to play we got into groups of 4 but one group had to have 3 so first me, Jihu and Caja went to go and make a star and it was fun. I had no idea how to make a star but at the end I made one. Then next we went to go make a spaceship and I thought that this would be more fun and it was 😁. At the end I made it but then it broke, but I did not really care because the people who were running it at our school said you can break another person's creation you the parts. After that we needed to switch again then the next one looked so, so boring because we had to make the layers of the earth. Ok now we got to choose what we wanted to do but I did not want to do anything so I just sat around watching and at the end the people who was running it gave prizes to people with good creations.

Slip and slide and swimming!!!

Hi Bloggers I forget to post this last year

Yesterday, the 9th of December the senior syndicate had a awesome day, we did slip and slide and swimming in the pool. First we go split into groups of three and then in half, my group went to the slip and slide first and the cool thing about that was that I was hoping to do slip and slide is well. First we got in a single file line. When I went I ended up going slow because I had no run up. But when I saw one of the people going they were going fast and was confused because even she did not have a run and she still went fast.  A little after the teacher let us go in twos for the slip in slide, I was partners with one of my friend and when it was our turn we decided that we should race and  it ended up being..... a tie. Then I decided that we can pull then back so that I could win. But that did not end up happening and my opponent won. So then I changed partener ot my other friend Jihu and but lucky for him he lost and I took victory. Then one of my friends told me to race another person and goes super fast. His name was Jacob. I thought he win because he always flying over the mattress that was meant to stop people from flying but he just like superman!!! As I thought he won. After our turn was over on the slip and slide we went to the teacher that was holding the hose so we could get all of the soup off us, Then we got into the pool and me and Jihu(Friend of mine)Played tag with some of the other people in the pool. But it started to get boring so we played and game called brawl stars in the pool, but then it got boring so just did who could hold their breath for the longest and I think I came second. A little later we did some sciming in the pool with a rings and plastic dicics. Then we got out of the pool and we went to play. That was all we did for the slip and slide and some swimming in the pool.

Jonty and Choc / By Vince Ford personal response

My class Hauraki has been reading this novel Jonty and Choc. The best bit at the start of the book is when they had a water balloon fight at the end of the year and in the red balloons they put sugar in it as well as water. They threw the red balloons only at the Principal. Our teacher made a google docs that was a personal response. If you don't know what a personal response has different sections like one of them was what did you not like near the start. But you fill in all of them but we wait until we are in the middle of the book them we fill in all of the sections again and we do the same until we get to the end of the book. Family Fun Day!!!!!

On Friday 19th of March our school had a family fun day.

I was very excited but the thing is we had a slip n slide  and a bouncy castle slip in slide and for each of them you had to wear a different thing like one pair of togs for one of them and clothes for the other.

The first event that we did was the bouncy castle slip n slide the water was very, very cold and it got even colder because we had to wait in a long line. I would rates the event 5/10 

After the slip n slide bouncy castle  It was time for the bake sale and the wheels zones. For the wheels zones I brang my skateboard, For the bake sale I brang 5 dollars 4 for my brother and sister for their afternoon tea when they got home and the other 1 dollars for me. I bought two samosas which was 50 cents for each and for my brother and sister I bought a donut for 1.50, creamy with donut for 2 dollars and one samosa. I would rate the 8/10

The next event was the swimming pool and the slip and slide. We got split into two group then one group went to the slip n slide and the other to the swimming pool. My group went to the pool first. When it was our turn to go to the slip n slide and it wasn't very fun because it didn't go dont that steap. I rated that 8/10

Then the finale event of the day the bouncy castle this one is a non wet one. It was very, very fun but exhausting. I would have rated that 10/10

Softball Zones

Kia Ora Bloggers, on the 23rd of March the Waikowhai softball team went to Mt Roskill School to play other schools. The first team that we played against was Hillsborough Primary. It was my teams first game but I didn't play because we had 12 in the team and 10 play so me and my friend Noah was the first sub. Our team won the game. There were no breaks in the game excepted for the lunch time. Our second game I was on and people might think that I am just a little boy that can't hit very far. But they were wrong! On my first hit of the day, I got to base 2. The thing is some of the team didn't have equipment and they used ours. Out of all of our games we won 6 out of 7, we lost against MLS(Marshall Laing School). It was very funny because in one of the games I played against one of my tag team mates. The last game was the most annoying because the referee  was not being fair. Because in the rules it says no tagging but they let the team tag us and when we were running to the bases and when my friend Mason hit the ball the girl dropped the ball and he still got out. But we still won the game. The Zones was over and we got to school at 2:45 and after school I had backtrack duty and I was so tired.

Emergency Plan

 Today this blog is about what do you need in a emergency kit and how to know if  there is like a earthquake or a tsunami. A Emergency kit is kind of a first aid kit but in this case it is supplies like food, water and medicine. So what you want to have in your emergency kit is  you would probably want

• Food : Protein bar, food that does not rot 
• Water : in Bottles
• Blanket: to keep you warm
• Torch: with batteries
• Phone/Radio: for the alarms,  make sure its charged
• Card games: entertainment
• Nappies: if you have a baby.

My teacher was alerted about the tsunami because she lives out of Auckland. Here is a story about what happened to her and her neighbours when the people in town got evacuated.

She lived on a hill so she and her neighbour where fine and didn't have to evacuate but in the town the people had to evacuate because it is flat surface. So it started with 8 cars coming up to her driveway and her and her neighbour invited them in to there house instead of the people waiting on the drive for it to finish. Then a bus came with the people that were in the hospital. They did not take them out because it was hard for them because they were in a bed, they came straight from the hospital but one of the people were sick. Some of the people in the bus and that had came was on the bed, couch and on the floor. After a while the ambulance came with some food and medicine. That's all I got to tell you folks.

But I didn't have to move because I live in Auckland.

Lockdown take 4

Ki ora bloggers during the lockdown the Te Waka Ako syndicate had homework to do. We got given  a sideshow to fill in on our chromebook and we attended a google meet each day. On our syndicate site in our maths, reading groups we had a choice board of different tasks to do each day. My favorite maths task was probably the kahoot. In my reading my favorite task was also the kahoot and in my favorite task from one of the other tasks is probably making the muffins with my mum. We also got to do a kahoot about New Zealand knowledge in our google meets. I came 4th but since there was a teacher playing and she came 3rd that meant the I came 3rd. Over all my favorite task was probably making the muffins.

I did not have a favorite day but I did like all of the days because it was fun and the same as normal.
